Seeing a Doctor or Nurse

We aim to provide a mixture of prebookable, on the day surgery appointments, telephone advice and home care. Appointments, to see or speak on the phone to one of our Doctors or Nurses are made via our reception. You can see any of us, and at either of our surgeries (whichever is most convenient to you) – however it is sensible to stick to one Doctor for ongoing health problems.

Appointments booked in advance

Patients can book appointments with individual Doctors or Nurses up to a month in advance.  The Receptionists do their best to satisfy all requests to see the Doctor and you will be offered the first appointment available.

To avoid confusion, please tell the receptionist if more than one person needs an appointment. On arrival at the surgery, please report to the Receptionist or use the Touch Screen (at Osborne Road Surgery), otherwise the Doctor will not know you have arrived.

The online appointment booking facility is currently unavailable.

On the day appointments

Many health problems crop up unexpectedly, and then you may want advice and/or treatment that same day. We try and deal with these events by offering a telephone consultation with a doctor or nurse the same day. The receptionist will take your details and a brief description of your symptoms (this helps our doctors prioritise their work) and pass them on to a doctor who will call you back later that morning or afternoon.

Many problems can be dealt with over the telephone, but if the doctor does need to see you, he/she will arrange a time for you to come in. As you can imagine, there is a large demand for same day appointments, however we have found that a telephone conversation between Doctor and patient helps us provide a good service at an appropriate time. Medically urgent cases are seen as soon as possible on the same day, but please do not abuse this facility.

Saturday Morning Surgeries

The Osborne Practice is open on Saturday mornings for pre-booked appointments only between 8am-11.15am.  The practice cannot issue emergency prescriptions.  If you have run out of medication or lost your prescription, please telephone Portsmouth Out of Hours on 02392 377921.

If you are collecting a repeat prescription, please ensure that you have allowed 48 hours for processing.  Prescriptions issued on a Thursday will normally be ready for collection the following Monday after 2pm.

If you need to see a GP urgently, please contact Porstmouth Out of Hours on 02392 377921 or contact the Guildhall Walk Health Care Centre on 02392 751006 (opening hours: Mon - Sun from 8am - 8pm (including all bank holidays).

  • To discuss test results
  • To discuss progress reports
  • To discuss hospital appointments and letters
  • On general administration matters

To request a telephone consultation, please call the reception. You will be asked to provide appropriate contact details including one or more telephone numbers and the times that you will be available on the number(s) provided
