Appointment system for blood services at St Mary's Hospital has changed...

There will no longer be a walk-in-facility for phlebotomy services at St Mary's Hospital. Instead patients must book an appointment by phone. Blood test appointments will be available from 8am to 4.45pm Monday to Fridays. The booking line will be available from 7am to 7pm Monday to Fridays and from 9am to 5pm at weekends.         

Text Messages

The practice also provides a FREE appointment text reminder service. Please make sure we have your current mobile number to safeguard your confidentiality.

Out of Hours Service 
Telephone - 0300 300 2012. Portsmouth Out of Hours service ensures that there are always doctors and nurses on duty whenever the practice is closed – overnight, weekends and bank holidays. They can provide telephone advice, an appointment at their surgery (in Drayton) or a home visit.


Home Visits
If you think a home visit may be needed please contact the surgery before 10.30am.  A Doctor or Nurse will contact you by phone initially and decide the best course of action.

We aim to provide a mixture of prebookable, on the day appointments, telephone advice and home care. Appointments, to see or speak on the phone to one of our Doctors or Nurses are made via our reception.

Family Planning and Emergency Contraception

All of our doctors can discuss your family planning needs with you in complete confidentiality. If you are already thinking of having a coil or the contraceptive implant, please contact The Ella Gordon Unit at St Mary's Hospital on 02392 866301.

Women on the contraceptive pill need to have their blood pressure checked once a year so please try to remember to book an appointment with the nurse for a check up before you run out of pills! If you do run out by accident, we will be able to provide you with an emergency supply.

Emergency contraception is available from the following sources and is most effective taken as soon after unprotected sex as possible.


Travel Vaccinations

We offer a full vaccination service, including yellow fever vaccinations, to both registered and private patients. For registered patients, the majority of vaccinations are free.

A travel clinic is held at the surgery, please telephone reception for future pre-bookable dates.  These appointments are again both for registered and private patients.

If you are a private patient, we will require you to complete a short form prior to your appointment date.  Please note vaccinations carry a cost.  We accept cash and cheques together with your cheque guaruntee card.  Unfortunately we do notaccept Visa, Debit or any credit cards.  You will, of course, be issued with a receipt.


Wart Clinic and Minor Surgery

We offer a monthly wart clinic to remove verrucas, skin tags and warts using liquid nitrogen. Our doctors also run a minor surgery service, for the removal of troublesome lumps, bumps and polyps. Book a routine appointment with Dr Price or Dr Macanovic in the first instance.


Medicals

We do medicals for the DVLA, taxi drivers and other purposes. There is always a charge for this work – our reception will be able to provide details and book an appointment for you. Private Patients - As long as you are not already registered here as an NHS patient, we are able to see you as a private patient. There is a charge for this service.


Temporary Residents

We see temporary residents on an immediate and necessary basis. Speak to reception for advice on how we can best help you. You could be seen under the NHS (if a UK resident) or privately if visiting from abroad


AntenatalPregnancy and Child care

The midwife attached to our surgery runs regular clinics at each surgery. The doctors see women for ante-natal appointments during regular surgery hours. Please make it clear when booking an appointment if it is for antenatal purposes.

The health visitors run baby clinics at various locations locally. These include clinics at the Osborne Road surgery and weekly clinics at Eastney Health Centre. Please ask reception for Osborne Road surgery clinic dates and times. Our nurses provide immunisations for your child at both surgeries. Times are flexible – please ask our receptionists for details.


Smoking Cessation Clinic

The practice offers a Smoking Cessation Clinic.  Please contact our reception team on 02392 821371 for further information or to book an appointment.


diabetesMaintaining Good Health

We recommend that all patients with on-going health problems are seen regularly by a nurse or a GP to monitor their condition. We offer annual reviews for people with: Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Coronary Heart Disease, Diabetes, Epilepsy, High blood pressure, Hypothyroidism, Mental health problems, Learning Difficulties, Obesity, Stroke

We will write to you to remind you to make an appointment for your check up. The nurses also offer a well man/woman check for all patients who simply want an MOT check up.
